Discussion on
Training, Competency and Certification

Activities/Obligations

To manage training, competency and certification in the workplace you may need records of, and reporting on:

  • the training, competency and certification requirements for each job;
  • training completed;
  • training scheduled for the future; and
  • competencies achieved, and certifications held, by personnel.

You may also want:

  • a way to review the status of each person in relation to the training, competency and certification requirements of the job they are in (or the job you are considerating them for); and
  • reminders for training events, for competency re-assessments and for certification renewals.

Using The Software

With OSHatWork you can:

  • Record the training, competency and certification requirements for each job.
  • Schedule training events - and record the participants (adding their results after completion).
  • Record each competency achieved, and each certification held, by each person - together with the expiry date of each corresponding period of validity.
  • Receive reminders for:
    • forthcoming training events,
    • competency re-assessments required, and
    • certification renewals required.
  • Perform training needs analysis (TNA).
  • Generate other reports such as:
    • the details of one selected job including:
      • the work tasks performed;
      • the work areas entered;
      • the training courses to be undertaken;
      • the competencies to maintain; and
      • the certifications to hold;
    • all the training, competency and certification records for one selected person;
    • a list of training events (optionally showing participants);
    • an attendee sheet that can be used to check attendance at a training event;
    • the results of each attendee at a training event; and
    • the personnel who hold a particular competency or certification.
